Bienvenidos a Guatemala

Hi everyone and bienvenidos (welcome) to the site where I will be chronicling my experiences this summer!

As you may or may not know, I will be spending 10 weeks this summer working as a research intern with Population Council. I’ll tell you all a bit more about my project in my next post once I survive my first week at work.

Currently I am sitting in the living room at my Airbnb apartment where I’ll be staying for the summer, looking out over the balcony (pictured above) and drinking a cup of café, making a game plan for getting some errands done today. My host left for a weekend trip so I’m on my own to get settled in. Today’s mission includes going to the bank and the grocery store and buying a phone so I can have a local number. Wish me luck!

I’m excited to share my experiences, stories, reflections, etc. with all of you on this adventure. A special thanks to everyone who has supported me and made this trip possible thus far! I especially wouldn’t be here without the support and assistance of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Dean Jody Heymann, Dr. Ninez Ponce and the rest of the Center for Global and Immigrant Health, and all the sponsors of the global health fellowships program. I can’t wait to see what this summer has in store!
